Nigeria has the biggest economy in Africa and this position is mostly influenced by foreign companies setting up business in the country. A lot of foreign companies have set up shop in Nigeria –as far back as 1930 in the case of Unilever.

In this article is a list of top foreign companies with offices in Nigeria that have had a huge impact in boosting the national economy. The list is in no particular order:

  1. Unilever

Unilever is one of the largest consumer goods companies in Nigeria. They are involved in the manufacturing and distribution of food items and ingredients, as well as home and personal care products. All over the world, Unilever has over 400 brands with revenue running north of 50 billion euros in 2016. They have few manufacturing plants in Nigeria with one in Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.

Chevron is an American owned oil and gas business with 180 offices across the world including Nigeria. Chevron Nigeria Ltd. are one of the largest oil and gas producers in the country – offering onshore and offshore gas exploration. Chevron is classified as one of the largest oil producing companies and its Nigerian headquarter is located in 2, Chevron Drive, Lekki Peninsula, Lagos Nigeria.

  1. Exxon Mobil

Exxon Mobil is an American Owned oil producing company with upstream affiliates operating in Nigeria as Mobil Producing Nigeria and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Ltd. These two affiliates are involved in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas. Mobil Producing Nigeria is the second largest producer of crude oil in Nigeria.

The list is not complete without the mention of telecommunications giant, MTN. MTN Group is a South African telecommunication company and launched their service in Nigeria in May, 2001. MTN is currently the biggest Telco company in Nigeria with over 65 million internet subscribers in 2019. MTN Nigeria is responsible for one third of MTN Group total revenue with an estimated market share of 35%. MTN has offices scattered all around the country in every state.

  1. Coca Cola

Under the firm, Nigerian Bottling Company Coca Cola dominates the non-alcoholic beverage drink with production of Fanta, Sprite, Eva water, Schweppes, and Five Alive. Nigerian Bottling Company started production in 1953 and now has a total of eleven factories in Nigeria which supplies distributors and wholesalers.

Nestle is regarded as the world’s largest food and beverage company in the world. They are a household name and like all large Global corporations they have a corporate office here in Nigeria. Their main factory is in Agbara Industrial Estate, Ogun State manufacturing breakfast cereal, baby food products, and food seasoning, bottled water, coffee and tea.   1. Diageo

Diageo is a multinational British firm producing alcoholic drinks with Guinness being their highest earning product in Nigeria. Diageo were the largest distiller in the world back in 2017 with subsidiaries like Smirnoff, Bailey, Gordon’s, Captain Morgan, Tanqueray, Ciroc and Johnny Walker. Diageo also owns 37% of Moet Henessey which produces brands like Moet & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot and Hennessy.

Microsoft develops and owns the operating system on most personal computers and sells other computer software. They own Xbox and the cloud computing system, Azure. With the Rapid tech growth in Nigeria, Microsoft is planting a massive footing in Nigeria. Their new office which is tagged the African Development Center in Ikoyi, Lagos is funded from their 100 million dollars project to establish two development centers in Africa. The main office is at Civic Towers, Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Google is one of the biggest technology companies in the world having over 78 offices in 50 countries including Nigeria. Its corporate office is at 39 Alfred Rewane Rd, Ikoyi, Lagos. Google has a wide variety of tech products which make people’s lives easier.

  1. Airtel Nigeria

Bharti Airtel Limited is an Indian-owned global telecommunications company operating in 18 countries across Asia and Africa. In Nigeria, it’s referred to as Airtel Nigeria which has recorded the most profit among all global locations. Airtel has a lot of offices spread within the country serving its 57 million subscribers, according to statista.com.
